I’ve always been pretty health conscious (my email in middle school was email@example.com #truestory). When my husband saw me scarfing mini quiche appetizers that I topped with barbecue chips, he knew something was up. He insisted that I take a pregnancy test. I had taken a pregnancy test a couple weeks prior that came out negative so I didn’t think I was actually pregnant. The next morning at 5:55 a.m., I woke up my husband saying “Good Morning, Daddy!” as I was waiving a positive pregnancy test in front of his face. His reaction was priceless!
Before I knew it, I was craving nothing but greasy food, which is so unlike me. Burgers, fries, pizza, chicken wings – you name it. I constantly felt hungover and like I needed carbs to soak up the nausea. I consulted my doctor about these crazy eating habits and he said the body begins to crave what’s it’s been lacking. Before finding out I was pregnant, I was a vegetarian for three months, which may explain why I was craving the meat.
I have also found myself craving some of my childhood comfort dishes, such as my mother’s traditional homemade Middle Eastern meals. I’m constantly craving Labneh (Lebanese strained yogurt) and Zeitoun (olives) on an Einstein everything bagel…this baby is half Arab/half Jew alright! 😉
I’m finally starting to get back to some of my typical eating habits and I can stomach my green smoothies and favorite salads again! I go to physical therapy three times a week due to my herniated disc and sciatica. It’s becoming more physically straining the bigger I’m getting, but I make it a habit to walk often and do careful workouts as much as possible. A cute outfit always makes me look forward to working out. I love this Ban.Do gym bag and Skinnydip headphones both from www.asos.com. These Ingrid & Isabel maternity moto leggings are super chic and comfy (you can totally dress them up with a flowy top, vest/jacket and cute booties!) from Nordstrom!
I also adore my fresh NIKEiD custom kicks that my husband personalized for me by writing “Mrs.” on one shoe and “;)ler” (my last name is Winkler!) on the other one!
This baby girl is worth the pain and the crazy calories! Hey mamas, I want to hear from you! What’s the craziest craving you had during pregnancy?
